WHERE REAL STORIES MEET GENERATIVE AI

We make documentaries that move between reality and imagination.

Our films begin with real interviews and observations, then transition into AI-generated visuals to explore memory, emotion, and inner worlds. Since founding Docufusion, we have self-financed two hybrid films that screened at international festivals and received multiple awards

We are currently developing new projects that continue this exploration into hybrid non-fiction storytelling.

HYBRID DOCUMENTARY STUDIO

GIULIA MANIEZZO

Born and raised in Italy, Giulia developed her aesthetic sense surrounded by art and history. After attending a documentary film school, she spent over a decade in Munich working as an editor with

directors and TV stations. Inspired by nature, the vivid imagination of her twin boys, and the stories told and lived, she now focuses on directing exploring a hybrid style that merges documentary filmmaking with generative AI.

FLORIAN HEINHOLD

Florian, co-founder and DoP at docufusion, is a filmmaker through and through. As an experienced TV journalist and the creator of numerous documentaries, he’s traveled the globe to capture powerful stories for European audiences. His passion is camerawork – and he sees Gen AI as an exciting opportunity to bring to the screen images, angles, and visions that were once impossible to capture.

Our approach to hybrid documentaries

We start from reality. Interviews. Observational scenes. The kind of material you would expect from a traditional documentary. Then, at certain moments, we allow the film to move elsewhere.

Real footage transitions into AI-generated visuals that give form to what cannot be filmed. Dreams. Memories. Inner images. Emotional and artistic visions.

This transition is at the center of our work.

We are deeply fascinated by the creative possibilities of AI. At the same time, we approach it with caution. We constantly ask ourselves when AI truly serves the story, and when it distracts from it. When it helps us reveal something real, and when it becomes just a visual effect.

There is no rulebook yet for this kind of filmmaking. So we are writing our own, film by film. Asking questions about ethics, authorship, and responsibility. Sometimes without clear answers.

Our goal is to stay close to real people and real stories, while finding new ways to visualize what lives beneath the surface.
