REFLECTIONS FROM THE BAIFF FILM FESTIVAL IN VENICE
Recently, I attended the Burano Artificial Intelligence Film Festival in Venice. This festival brought together filmmakers exploring the impact of artificial intelligence on cinema. It was interesting to engage with others in the field who are utilizing new AI tools in various ways to shape their storytelling.
Presenting my film, Whose Child Are You?, was a significant moment for me. Sharing it with an audience that understands the blend of traditional film techniques and AI elements reinforced my commitment to my roots as a documentary filmmaker. Watching the other films, I recognized that everyone approaches AI differently, each with their unique style and vision.
I also made valuable connections with fellow filmmakers, which added to the collaborative spirit of the event. The festival organizers were very welcoming, creating an atmosphere that felt like we were all pioneers exploring new territory together. This experience deepened my understanding of my own artistic direction. I want to maintain a strong connection to reality, honoring my documentary background. While I embrace new technologies, I don’t want to lose sight of the authenticity and grounding that my foundation in documentary filmmaking provides.
Overall, the festival was a reminder of the diverse ways we can integrate AI into our work while staying true to our narratives. I look forward to continuing this exploration, balancing innovation with my commitment to reality.
